İstanbul Hakkında Her Şey – The New York Times Travel Sayfalarında

İstanbul Hakkında Her Şey kitabımız The New York Times Travel sayfalarında yerini aldı. Konuyla ilgili haberin tamamını http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/10/28/travel/28iht-instanbul-guides.html internet adresinden okuyabilirsiniz.

“…To help put that history into a contemporary context, Pat Yale, a London-born writer, and Saffet Emre Tonguc, a Turkish writer and tour guide for celebrity clients like Oprah Winfrey and Eric Schmidt, the chief executive of Google, have collaborated on “Istanbul: The Ultimate Guide.”
At more than 600 pages, their encyclopedic effort takes readers to neighborhoods absent from most itineraries and guide books, like Yenikoy on the Bosporus, Caddebostan on the Asian side and the backstreets of Balat along the Golden Horn.
“Many guidebooks lose interest in Istanbul after the 17th century,” Ms. Yale wrote in an e-mail.
“Of course like everyone we wanted to cover Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia,” she wrote. “But Saffet and I wanted to show that there is also much that is fascinating about the more modern city — the Abud Efendi mansion that was used in the smash-hit Turkish soap opera ‘Gumus,’ which is credited with kick-starting the Arab world’s recent love affair with the city, and the spectacular new Sakirin Mosque on the Asian side, with its turquoise mihrab and Frank Gehry-esque dome.”
Mixing photographs and maps with reproductions of old postcards, the book provides a peek at some of the more obscure treasures Istanbul has to offer, like the somewhat derelict Tulip Fountain near Galata Tower, or the wooden house museum in the Cankurtaran area that displays the musical instruments of Dede Efendi, a Turkish composer of classical music who is buried in Mecca.
The book also lists about 150 hotel and apartment-rental options in a wide range of prices.
“Istanbul: The Ultimate Guide” will soon be available on Amazon.com and is sold in major bookstores in Istanbul.”
